Brain Stroke (Lakwa)

Brain stroke, also known as Lakwa in Hindi, occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. This can lead to brain damage and requires immediate medical attention. There are two main types of strokes: ischemic stroke (due to blocked arteries) and hemorrhagic stroke (due to bleeding in or around the brain).

Causes of Brain Stroke:
  • High blood pressure: The leading cause of strokes.
  • Atherosclerosis: Narrowing of arteries due to fat deposits.
  • Diabetes: Increases the risk of stroke.
  • Smoking: Damages blood vessels and accelerates artery blockage.
  • Heart disease: Such as atrial fibrillation, which can lead to blood clots.
Symptoms of Brain Stroke:
  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding speech.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Severe headache with no known cause.
  • Difficulty walking, dizziness, or loss of balance.
Prevention Tips:
  • Maintain a healthy blood pressure.
  • Exercise regularly to improve circulation.
  • Eat a healthy diet low in salt and fats.
  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Manage diabetes and other health conditions.
